Contest Info: The Zumbrota Covered Bridge Festival is the City's annual community event, newly held in the fall! This year will be the 51st Covered Bridge Festival!! Zumbrota is located in Goodhue County, Minnesota, along the North fork of the Zumbro River. The population was 3,692 of 2020. It promotes itself as "the only Zumbrota in the world." Zumbrota was claimed as a town in 1856 by Joseph Bailey and D.B. Goddard. The name Zumbrota appears to have resulted from a corruption of the French name for the local Zumbro River, Rivière des Embarras meaning “Obstruction River”, coupled with the native Dakota word for village.
Zumbrota is home to the Zumbrota Covered Bridge, the last functioning covered bridge in the state of Minnesota. It was originally installed in 1869, one year before the arrival of railroads to the area. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also the very center of our festival grounds!
The festival is historically popular for hosting local vendors & artists. Our community has a rich history of celebrating the arts & theatre. Our historical downtown is still flourishing with many boutique shops, and includes a new Book Store next to the Historical Society building. Recent festivals love to invite families for a weekend of fun, including live music, kids events, animals, & lots of food trucks! Don't forget about the fireworks & the grand parade!
Please use any of this background to help inspire your button designs for this year's contest. All submissions will be shared with the public on our webpage and Facebook. The design with the most votes will be utilized for our festival button for this years 51st Covered Bridge Festival Design! Best of luck to all & thank you for your ceativity and time.
The students should submit artwork to: teachers Dana Langworthy, Lenora Oliver, or Molly Lindhart in Mazeppa. Must be submitted by May 31st.
